DOP (Dioctyl-phthalate) also known as DEHP (Diethylhexyl-phthalate) is a plasticiser used in the manufacture of vinyl examination gloves to soften the raw PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) material.

DOP does not chemically bond with the raw PVC material and can, over time, dissolve out of the glove and enter the body when the glove is used.

Due to the possibility of DOP entering the human body, the EU has extensively researched the possible effects and has, as a result, placed DOP onto the EU Chemicals Regulation REACH list as a “substance of very high concern” (SVHC).

Barber Healthcare has taken the decision to remove DOP from its vinyl examination gloves with immediate effect, clearly labelling all new product as “‘DOP (DEHP) free” - see image above.

As a result of the removal of DOP from our manufacturing process, we have developed a new vinyl glove which is softer, provides greater sensitivity and dexterity and has a superior force at break, making the glove stronger and less prone to tearing whilst donning than other vinyl gloves!

Welcome to a new era of vinyl glove manufacture, welcome to Barber Healthcare.
